FAIRFAX, Va. (July 1, 2024) – The Northern Virginia Association of Realtors® (NVAR) has been ranked #1 in a listing of Largest Business Advocacy Groups in Greater Washington by the Washington Business Journal, moving up from #2 last year.

“NVAR advocates to ensure that the issues affecting our 13,000 members are known to lawmakers and representatives,” said Ryan McLaughlin, CEO, NVAR. “We also advocate on behalf of consumers ― representing the interests of homebuyers, sellers, and renters, and the commercial tenants, who are directly impacted by changes such as affordability, taxation, and ordinances.”

Each year, the Washington Business Journal compiles its Largest Business Advocacy Groups in Greater Washington list using each organization’s most recent revenue, as reported in 990 tax forms.

NVAR is in good company with the other organizations rounding out the top five including the Economic Club of Washington, D.C.; Greater Washington Partnership; the Chamber of Digital Commerce; and the Washington Area New Automobile Dealer Association.

“Our advocacy efforts reflect the magnitude of the impact Realtors® and the housing market have on Northern Virginia's economy and communities,” said Thai-Hung Nguyen, President, NVAR’s Board of Directors, and Realtor® with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Premier.

In fact, NVAR’s recent housing economic report, found that in 2023, the residential real estate market contributed $38.7B to the region, boosted the area’s gross regional product by $22.4B, increased labor income by $12.8B, and supported more than 187,000 jobs. This makes housing one of the most important economic factors in Northern Virginia.
