Both Fairfax County and the City of Alexandria have released survey’s to receive community feedback as they seek to update and develop policies on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). 

ADUs are housing units that provide independent living with provisions for sleeping, cooking and sanitation, either attached or detached from the primary dwelling, but on the same property.  Please watch the attached video presentations for each jurisdiction to better understand the current zoning ordinance and how proposals may seek to regulate the building of ADU’s in the future:
