Pre-Licensing consists of the specific education that is required by each state’s real estate commission in order to obtain a license and begin practicing real estate.

Salesperson Pre-Licensing Requirements

  • 18 years of age
  • Complete and pass the 60-hour "Principles of Real Estate" course
  • Register for and pass the PSI Virginia State and National Exam
  • Get fingerprinted and have a state-wide criminal history check completed.
For Veterans:

Eligible honorably discharged military veterans since 1993 may register for no-cost pre-licensing training at NVAR. This program applies to November classes only.

You've decided to pursue a career in real estate. What's your next move? This 60-hour, 11-day course satisfies all educational requirements for obtaining your Virginia real estate salesperson's license!

Broker Pre-Licensing 

Want to become a broker? NVAR can help. To become a broker in the state of Virginia, you must:
  • Be a licensed agent for 36 out of 48 months consecutively
  • Complete 180 classroom hours of real estate broker pre-licensing courses approved by the Virginia Real Estate Board (VREB) including Broker Appraisal, Broker Finance, Broker Law, Broker Management
  • Pass the PSI Virginia Exam for Brokers

$310 per course (Member / Non-member)
