Our membership consists of: sales agents, brokers, property managers, appraisers and others engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry.
Our members live and work throughout the DC Metropolitan area, but NVAR’s geographic region includes Arlington County, Fairfax County, City of Fairfax, City of Falls Church, Town of Vienna, and City of Alexandria. Realtors® are invested – not just financially – in the communities they serve. A majority volunteer their time to help ensure that all Northern Virginia residents have the opportunity to lead happy, healthy, successful lives.
The typical NVAR member is an independent contractor affiliated with an independent company catering to our local market. In Northern Virginia, the number of Realtors® reporting real estate as their only occupation is 78 percent – 90 percent for those with 16 or more years of experience. The typical Realtor® in Northern Virginia has 10 years of experience.
Realtors® frequently have had careers in other fields prior to real estate, the most common being in management, business, and financial professions followed by sales and retail. Only 6 percent of NVAR Realtors® in 2015 indicated that real estate is their first career. In Northern Virginia, 16 percent had a previous career management, business, or the financial sector, and 10 percent in sales or retail. Six percent in Northern Virginia reported real estate was their first career.
