Fires, theft, floods. Insurance is designed to protect structures against these calamities. But what protection exists against local, state and national regulations that may bring harm to the business you are building? Think about this:
• Would your clients still be able to afford closing costs if recordation taxes doubled?
• Would you be able to stay in business if national banks were allowed to sell real estate?
• What would happen to the market if all new residential building was stopped or taxed at exorbitant rates because of no-growth initiatives?
NVAR’s Government Affairs Department gives you a powerful bi-partisan voice in politics to protect your business and prevent onerous regulations that can harm it. Through active lobbying efforts and helping to elect real estate-friendly officials, NVAR ensures that the Realtor® voice is heard by those making legislative decisions.
Through a variety of committees, including Bill Review, Political Action, and Government Affairs, Realtors® decide on an issue position, then work with legislators to make that position heard.
An important component of NVAR’s ability to help protect your interests is the Northern Virginia/Realtors® Political Action Committee (NV/RPAC). Contributing your fair share investment with your dues each year gives NV/RPAC the tools that it needs to help keep the Realtor® community going strong.
