You Can Call Me ‘Chief’: Incoming Chairman is Ready for Whatever 2013 Brings; No Fires Expected!

When I was thinking of what to say for my installation last month, I was reminded of the immediate past Chairman’s installation remarks. Pat Kline wanted to be a Realtor® from the time she was eight years old!  Not me; I wanted to be a fireman. You know, ride in front of the big fire truck with the sirens blaring, wearing my big fire hat and my dog spot right beside me! 

So, how did I get from fireman to real estate manager?  Well, both jobs do sometimes require putting out fires!  Being the real estate manager of two large, diverse offices prepared me well, and we will not have any fires at NVAR in 2013!  This is a great organization, thanks to many years of fantastic leadership and the best association staff in the business. We only need to follow the fabulous strategic plan forged under Pat Kline’s leadership.

I picked the right time to be Chairman because 2013 is a great time to be in the real estate business!  As the market improves, our ranks will grow. We will continue to seek new and young talent to serve at the association. Not because of what it does for NVAR, but what it will do for them.

We will continue to seek new ways to serve our established hardworking membership as well. We want to help you grow your business, improve your skills and find new and better ways to work together. I ask those of you who have given so much to NVAR to help mentor our young volunteers grow in their service at the association.

When we work together, we all achieve more. By standing together, we will continue to fight attacks on property rights and the mortgage interest deduction. When we network together, we find new and better ways to serve our diverse clientele. Learning together, we sharpen our skills and are better prepared to serve in an ever-changing environment. By serving together, we all gain so much more than we ever give.

So I ask each of you:

• heed our calls to action
• volunteer for a committee
• attend our forums and convention
• ride the bus to Richmond & meet our legislators
• give generously to RPAC
• help our young members grow
• give back to the community and help it thrive.

I am proud of the team we have put together to lead this association in 2013. It is an honor to have been elected to serve as their leader. And, it is an honor to serve as your chairman this year.
