Background
Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS® is approved by the Virginia Department of Professional & Occupational Regulation for the purpose of offering the CompuTaught Virginia Principles and Continuing Education Study courses.
Requirements for Completing the Course
To complete the course and receive an Education Certificate, each student must successfully complete the following requirements:
- Complete ALL instructional lessons in the course by answering each question correctly at least twice. Most questions are timed and need to be answered within the prescribed time for credit.

- All course lessons on the computer must be completed within 180 days from the date of enrollment. Access to the computer lessons will expire at midnight on the 180th day after enrollment. Each student has 90 days to access and review the course content after they have completed the last lesson in a course.
- There are no course final exams for Continuing Education courses. A final exam will be administered for the Virginia Principles course by Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS®.
Certification
Upon completion of a course, each student will receive an Education Certificate. In the event the certificate is lost, a duplicate may be obtained from the Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS® offices by written request. An administrative fee of $5.00 will be charged for the duplicate.

How to Complete the Course
A. Starting Instructions
Please refer to the "Introduction" lesson, located at the beginning of each course.
B. Student Affidavit
According to the Virginia Real Estate Board, Code of Virginia § 54.1-2105.D (Professions and Occupations), all students participating in distance learning and correspondence courses, must complete a notarized affidavit certifying compliance with the course requirements. The Student Affidavit, located on the "Course Home Page" may be used as the statement. This statement must be signed, dated, and notarized, (this service may be available at the school) and returned to Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS®, before any student can receive credit for a distance-learning course. This statement certifies that each student has personally completed each lesson of instruction.
C. Principles Course Final Examination and Grading Policy
All course work must be complete before taking the final exam. All final exams are given at Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS® unless arrangements are made for testing at a different location. Tests are scheduled Monday through Friday. Call 703-207-3200 to schedule final exam at least one day before the desired test date. On the day of testing, bring the Student Affidavit (which may be notarized at the school at the time of testing) Product and Customer Service Evaluation (which is located in the back of this manual), and a valid form of picture identification.
This test is a proctored examination. Calculators may be used if they are silent, battery-operated, and do not have printout capability or alphabetic keyboard. (The school will not provide a calculator; however, each student may bring their own calculator as long as it meets the requirements, as stated.) Students have a maximum of three hours to complete the Principles exam. A score of 70% or better must be achieved in order to receive credit for the Principles course.
All exams must be taken within 180 days from the date of enrollment. If you fail the first exam you may schedule a second exam no sooner than the next day, as long as the second exam is scheduled within the 180 day period from the date of enrollment.
D. Appraisal Course Examinations and Grading Policy
Scheduling End of Course Examination: For students taking courses that require an end of course exam, you must call 703-207-3244 or e-mail NVAR Education Department at registrations@nvar.com to schedule your end of course exam.
All qualifying courses require a proctored end of course examination. If you are taking the 75-hour or 90-hour qualifying course, you will be required to take a two-part (A & B) end of course examination. For part A, you must pass the exam with a minimum score of 75% correct. For part B, you must pass the exam with a minimum score of 74% correct. If you fail either part of the end of course exam, you may schedule a retake of that part, but the retake policy is state specific and you may be required to wait up to 30 days.
Should you fail either part twice, you must re-register and repeat the entire course from the beginning before taking the end of course examination again. A discounted re-enrollment fee will be charged. Please contact NVAR Education Department at 703-207-3244 for details.
E. Virginia Salesperson Licensing Examiniation
After passing the final examination for the Principles course, Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS® will issue an Education Certificate that certifies the student has successfully completed the Principles course. The student is now eligible to take the licensing exam for the state of Virginia.

- The proctor cannot fax or e-mail exams, answer sheets or scores to NVAR School of Real Estate and we cannot fax or e-mail course completion certificates to the student.
- We must receive your signed "Student Affidavit" before we can issue a Course Completion Certificate. (Click on the "Course Info" link on the menu to the left for more information on the "Student Affidavit".)
